Knowledge, capability and the experience of rights problems

This report documents the results of an extensive survey conducted by the English and Welsh Civil and Social Justice Survey in connection with how people deal with law-related problems. Of particular concern was the impact of a lack of legal capability in areas as diverse as health affects, income loss, accessing legal advice and legal outcomes. Findings include the observation that low-income and unemployed female respondents are least likely to seek out legal advice or initiate legal options because of their lack of legal literacy. The authors favour targeting PLEI based on population groups and legal problems.
