The Lawyer is Not the Protagonist: Community Campaigns, Law and Social Change

This paper canvasses options for lawyers who want to help marginalized community members effect social change through community campaigns. The author shares examples of community campaigns where lawyers played a supporting role behind the scenes, taking the lead from the communities affected. The author posited that public legal education and information are a key role that lawyers can play in helping ensure that the community remains in control of the campaign and builds capacity to deal with the legal issues affecting it.
