Legal Health Check online portal for community workers: Project Report June 2015

This report describes a suite of “legal health check” or legal screening tools developed by a non-profit, community based legal organization in Australia to help train and provide resources for front-line community workers who help marginalized people. These tools are intended to be used to help community workers detect legal problems and refer to appropriate legal resources for follow up.

The report canvasses the following information about the project and preparation for launching the project:

  • a literature review about other legal health check initiatives (including similar initiatives in Ontario)
  • the process that the organization developed to develop and test their new legal screening tools
  • opportunities for further use of legal health check

The report recommends allocation of more resources to build up a wider community of practice around legal health check, in order to foster more collaboration and communication between legal and non-legal organizations.
