Public Legal Education: A Proposal for Development

This proposal summarizes responses to a paper proposing a national PLEI strategy in the UK. Respondents noted that PLEI must receive core government funding but should be delivered and designed independently. Additionally, PLEI is part of an integrated approach to the provision of legal services but cannot be a substitute for legal advice and representation and should incorporate skills development along with knowledge and understanding. The paper offers a working definition of PLE.
