Review of the BC Family Public Legal Education and Information Resources

This report reviews existing family law PLEI resources in British Columbia for the purpose of identifying gaps and areas of duplication. Recommendations include distinguishing the areas of expertise among PLEI providers so as to carve out their unique roles in the development of materials and programs, refining access points to both materials and programs from the users’ perspective so as to hasten and simplify their search and needs fulfilment, evaluating materials with a deeper regard for both literacy issues and the emotionality associated with family law matters and how both might affect users’ capacity, and finally, developing materials that raise awareness of family law issues and processes with a view to educating the broader public before problems arise so as to avert them.
