The Civil Justice System and the Public: Highlights of the Alberta Pilot

This article outlines the major findings of an Alberta PLE evaluation study, with a focus on communication between the civil justice system and the public. Findings include the conclusion that the public cannot easily locate legal information and that they prefer to get it by way of in person communication. Where that is impossible, telephone information that is not pre-recorded and easily navigated websites are the preferred modes of delivery. Effective PLEI reduces or eliminates the use of legalese and is a supplement to rather than a replacement for accessible affordable legal advice.
